If you are missing one or more teeth, our dentists may recommend that you take a step toward restoring your smile with long-lasting smile results by getting dental implants in Cincinnati, Ohio.
What Is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a form of smile restoration where the tooth replacement is surgically placed into the jawbone. It can replace one or more missing teeth and even the entire dental arch, eliminating the need for a removable denture.
How Does It Work?
Prior to getting dental implants, Dr. Rachelle Boudreau or Dr. Vincent Benedetti will need to perform some assessments to see if you are a good candidate for the treatment. We will take X-rays to determine if your jawbone is strong enough to reliably hold the implant. If your jawbone appears to lack density, we may recommend that you get a bone grafting procedure to improve your jaw and the likelihood of a good outcome.
Our dentists and team will work with specialists to surgically place the implant post, which is made of titanium and resembles a screw, into the jawbone at the site of the missing tooth. The implant post becomes a replacement for what would normally be the tooth roots. Before placing the dental implant restoration onto the post, your jawbone requires a period of healing for the implant post to bond with the jawbone. This provides a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.
After your mouth has healed, we will place a dental crown restoration onto the implant, giving you a stable solution for tooth loss. Dental implants can be a dental crown, bridge or a complete or partial denture. It looks and feels just like your natural smile and with proper care the dental implant can last a lifetime.
